Creation of TIFF Image Files
Bitonal 200 dpi TIFF Page Images - Enhanced
Pages are scanned at 200 dpi bitonal on a Xerox Docuimage scanner. The page is registered to the outside edge so that the text block is properly positioned. The page images are then deskewed and despeckled using image enhancement software.
Bitonal 300 dpi TIFF Page Images - Enhanced
Pages are scanned at 300 dpi bitonal on a Xerox Docuimage scanner. The page is registered to the outside edge so that the text block is properly positioned. The page images are then deskewed and despeckled using image enhancement software.
Bitonal 600 dpi TIFF Page Images - Enhanced:
Pages are scanned at 600 dpi bitonal on a Xerox Docuimage scanner. The page is registered to the outside edge so that the text block is properly positioned. The page images are then deskewed and despeckled using image enhancement software.
Grayscale and Color Scanning
Grayscale 300 dpi TIFF Page Images - Enhanced:
Pages are scanned at 300 dpi 256-shade grayscale on a Xerox Docuimage scanner. The page is registered to the outside edge so that the text block is properly positioned. The page images are then individually edited in Adobe Photoshop. They are deskewed by hand. The histogram is modified to remove the lighter gray-shades, thereby removing the gray page background and text bleed from the opposite side of the page. This optimizes the text in the image for recognition. The illustrations on the page are then zoned and the histogram for each is adjusted to compensate for the first modification. The resulting page image is then optimized for capture processing.
RGB Color 200 dpi TIFF Illustration Images
Pages are preview scanned on a Microtek Scanmaker. Upon an acceptable preview the page is saved as 200 dpi RGB color TIFF Images. These color images are individually edited in Photoshop. They are deskewed by hand, then fine-cropped. The histogram is adjusted to remove any text bleed-through from the opposite side of the page.
